Promising Indian driver Aditya Patel notched up his maiden international triumph by coming on top in the fourth race of the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup here.
The 22-year-old from Chennai, in his sport coupe powered by bio-natural gas, achieved a start-finish victory, ahead of the leader of the standings Maciek Steinhof (Poland) and Olaf Manthey (Germany).
Juniors Kris Heidorn (Germany), Jann-Hendrik Ubben (Germany) and Arne Larisch (Germany) clinched four to six places in their Scirocco R cars.
“It is an indescribable feeling. My first victory outside of India and at the famous Nurburgring straight away, that’s simply fantastic. It’s an amazing feeling to win at this historic track. I knew that I’m quick enough,” a jubilant Aditya said.
The 14-lap race offered numerous overtaking manoeuvres.
Maciek Steinhof managed a perfect start - from position eight, he made up as many as four places on the first lap. But Aditya, who started from the pole, was not too troubled.
“Just after the re-start following the safety car period I was a little worried because Steinhof was right behind me - but I managed to defend my lead. It’s my first international victory and I hope for many more to come,” he said.
Aditya will start from the eighth position today owing to the reverse grid format.
